The fireworks were
more than I had bargained for: a few minutes before
midnight, 6 bombs went off at busy areas of the city.
Two people were killed, two dozen injured. After
midnight another, even more powerful bomb went off,
fortunately nobody was hurt by that one.
The word on the street was that it was a backlash from the
recent overthrow of what people say was a corrupt
government, and not as CNN might have suggested a response
to the hanging death of Saddam Hussein that morning.
Needless to say, as much as I enjoyed the city to that
point, I was glad to get on the plane the next morning to
quiet, gentle Bhutan. |
