If What do you do
when the 'wheels come off'? Every golfer has done it, you
might be going along just swell, you might even think.....
'I've got this game licked'. When all of a sudden, you can't
do a thing; nothing works. You frantically try this or that
swing change, to no avail. As my wife says, 'when you think
you've got it, that's when you are in trouble'.
The solution lies not in changing your swing; chances are the
swing is not off by much. The problem lies in your attitude;
you are not being yourself! You are trying so hard to perform
that the person doing the performing gets lost.
Jon Cabot-Zinn wrote a book with the best title ever; No
matter where you go, there you are! In it, he talks about the
fact that we are human be-ings, not human do-ings. Golfers who
forget who they are, who lose that center and become do-ings
instead of beings, will never right the ship, no matter what
they do.
Think about it, just at the time you 'give up trying' and just
play, your game magically comes back.
So, be yourself when the wheels come off, and it won't be long
before you 'find your swing', as Bagger Vance would say.
