What should I
be thinking about when I go to hit a shot?
One question I get allot is "what should I be thinking about
when I go to hit a shot?" Should it be the ball?
The target? The club? The swing? The feel?
In actual fact, if you talk to good golfers, you get a
different answer from each of them. We all have ways
of working with ourselves. No two golfers swing or
think the same.
However, if you tend to focus on one thing so hard that you
sweat bullets, the focus tends to dissipate and you actually
tend to lose focus.
It's like the story of the cook in a Zen monastery when
asked how he keeps his knifes so sharp without using the 211
sharpening stone, he replies that if they're too sharp, they
dull quickly. The secret is to get them almost sharp.
Then they tend to stay there.
Whatever you think about, don't give it full attention.
Twenty five percent is enough. Rest your mind there
gently, allowing the environment around you, the target, and
a sense of relaxation to also be present. That way
your game can stay 'sharp', like the monks knifes. |
